A longtime NBA veteran has announced his retirement.
Former Memphis Grizzlies star Rudy Gay revealed in a story for The Players’ Tribune on Tuesday that he is retiring from basketball.

Gay played in the NBA for 18 seasons. The Grizzlies drafted him with the 8th overall pick in 2006 out of UConn, where Gay was one of the best players in the country and helped lead the Huskies to an Elite Eight.
After spending the first six-plus seasons of his career with Memphis, Gay was traded to the Toronto Raptors in January 2013. He played for the Raptors for a very brief period before being traded to the Sacramento Kings, where he spent several years. Gay also played for the San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz.
Gay received a look from a notable Western Conference team prior to last season, but he did not make the roster out of training camp.
The 38-year-old Gay finishes his NBA career with averages of 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
