Ryan Anderson thought he’d be signing with Wizards this summer
Ryan Anderson apparently thought he was destined for a move back to the Eastern Conference this past offseason.
According to a report by J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic, Anderson was expecting to sign with the Washington Wizards over the summer and even texted Wizards point guard John Wall that he believed he was headed to D.C. But team president Ernie Grunfeld reportedly never followed up with Anderson after an initial free agency conversation and was unwilling to go too high to sign the sharpshooting power forward.
Anderson, 28, ultimately wound up signing a lucrative deal with the Rockets instead and is averaging 12.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for them so far this season. He’s enjoying a featured role in Houston, which is something he might not have had in Washington with Markieff Morris starting at power forward. Meanwhile, the Wizards used their money to max out Bradley Beal and to sign a trio of underrated big men in Ian Mahinmi, Andrew Nicholson, and Jason Smith, so it looks like everything worked out for the best in the end.
