If Kevin Durant is planning on leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder as a free agent this summer, he hasn’t informed all of his teammates yet.
In a brief chat with TMZ on Thursday, Thunder big man Serge Ibaka was asked if Kevin Durant is staying in OKC.
“Of course,” Ibaka said confidently. “Of course he is.”
Ibaka was then asked if that means Russell Westbrook will also sign an extension with the Thunder when his contract expires after the 2016-2017 season.
“Everybody’s staying,” he said.
In reality, that is probably wishful thinking from Ibaka. There’s a good chance even Durant doesn’t know what Durant is going to do when he becomes a free agent on July 1, though we are starting to get a slightly better idea.
Had the Thunder lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference semis, Durant would probably have an easier time leaving. After they pulled off the upset and came within one win of beating the defending champs to advance to the NBA Finals, K.D. might want to see things through for another season.
