Ben Simmons’ departure at long, long last has Philadelphia 76ers fans yelling out “Freedom!” like Mel Gibson in “Braveheart.” Now even the team’s broadcast station is getting in on the fun.
NBC Sports Philadelphia took a savage shot at Simmons on Thursday after the former No. 1 overall pick was traded to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a package for James Harden. The station put Harden’s stats this season next to those of Simmons … which are all zeroes since Simmons has held out all season. The cherry on top was the three-point percentage category. Next to Harden’s number of 33.2 percent this season, Simmons’ three-point percentage section simply read “LOL.” Take a look at the hilarity.

You can’t really fault the broadcast for being so brutal. The Simmons saga held the franchise in limbo for nearly six months. Now that it is finally over, there has to be an overwhelming sense of relief in Philadelphia right now.
As for Simmons himself, he definitely won’t be getting any Christmas cards from the 76ers fans this year. Even as early as last September, the local television stations in Philly were already taking shots at Simmons.
