RJ Adelman, the son of former NBA coach Rick Adelman, was killed last week after being hit by a car.

The 44-year-old was killed after being hit by a car while crossing the street in Houston around noon on Feb. 2, according to a report published by TMZ Sports on Thursday. They say he was not using a crosswalk. The driver was questioned by police and released without being charged, per TMZ.

Adelman played basketball at Willamette University and became a lawyer afterwards. He also worked in basketball as a scout for the Sonics and Kings before becoming an assistant coach for his dad in Houston.

Some members of the NBA community shared their thoughts with the Adelman family after hearing the news.

Our deepest thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of R.J. Adelman.
