Some Kansas City Chiefs fans felt like their team virtually had to win twice on Sunday in an overtime contest against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Chiefs scored first in overtime with a field goal to take a 30-27 lead at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The Colts started the ensuing drive from the 35-yard line.
Colts play-caller Shane Steichen rolled the dice on 1st-and-10. Quarterback Daniel Jones launched a deep pass that landed right into the hands of wide receiver Laquon Treadwell for a massive gain in the red zone. Treadwell stumbled after making the catch and appeared to fumble the ball to the Chiefs as he tried to get more yardage.

The referees initially ruled the play a successful catch and a subsequent fumble recovery by the Chiefs, which would have ended the game.

NBC announcer Cris Collinsworth said on the broadcast that he did not think Treadwell had secured possession before being downed. But upon review, the officials ruled in favor of the Colts, deeming him down before the fumble.
Despite the reversed ruling, the Chiefs’ defense held firm, stuffing back-to-back runs for negative yardage before forcing Jones to scramble well short of the sticks on third down. The Colts settled for a field goal to tie the game at 30-30.
Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker took over to win the game for Kansas City. He rushed for 18 yards on three carries and made a 22-yard catch to set up the Chiefs’ game-winning field goal.
