Stan Van Gundy: Cavaliers front office ‘crazy’ for firing David Blatt
Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy let the Cleveland Cavaliers front office have it for firing David Blatt.
Van Gundy spoke to the Detroit media on Saturday and, in usual SVG fashion, didn’t hold back in his assessment of the situation. Here are a few choice quotes:
SVG on Blatt firing: “It’s absurd and I agree with Rick Carlisle. It’s embarrassing for the league.”

More from SVG on Blatt firing: "That one to me elevated all of the coach firings totally into the theater of the absurd."

SVG texted with Spoelestra, Clifford: "We have jobs, maybe, because our front offices aren't quite as crazy as theirs, but that's about it."

SVG: "Did he order the wrong type of food for post game meals? Did he not give David Griffin a nice enough Christmas present? I don't know."

Van Gundy can probably empathize with Blatt. Van Gundy, it has been widely assumed, was forced out in Miami thanks to Pat Riley and Shaquille O’Neal’s objections in a season that the Heat went on to win the championship.
Coaches make up a fraternity, so they’re obviously going to stick up for each other. Rick Carlisle did the exact same thing on Friday. Of course, who knows if Van Gundy has any idea how bad things had apparently gotten within the Cleveland locker room.
