Stephen Jackson on offseason: ‘I ain’t worked out my whole career’

Stephen Jackson has been in the NBA for a very long time, and he hasn’t exactly come across as a highly-motivated player during his 12-year career. Jackson is incredibly passionate about rapping, and it seems like he spends more of his offseason time writing rhymes than he does in the gym. That’s probably because he does.

In fact, Jackson spends no time in the gym at all during the offseason. During an interview with New York City hip-hop station 105.1 FM on Monday, the Spurs shooting guard told the hosts of “The Breakfast Club” that he doesn’t work out when the NBA is out of season — at all.

“I don’t work out,” he said emphatically. “I ain’t worked out my whole career. That’s me. That’s how I’ve been my whole life. I been doing it so long, so when I go to training camp, I take those three weeks to get in shape.”

This is the same Jackson openly admitted he quit on the Bobcats and told the Bucks coaches he has accomplished more than them, so it’s not really a surprise. Jackson said he doesn’t sit around drinking, smoking and partying during the offseason, so only touching a basketball once in four months isn’t that big of a deal. He also pointed to the fact that he has never been injured.

The rest of the interview — which you can see below — was equally entertaining. Jackson spent some time bashing other NBA players who have tried to rap and also talked about how he never got a “thank you” from Ron Artest for climbing into the stands with him and fighting Pistons fans.

“I put my career on the line for him going in the stands to fight,” Jackson said. “I’ll do that for any one of my brothers. … I lost $3 million behind that and there was no ‘thank you’ or nothing.

“The craziest part was, in the locker room after, he sat back and looked at me and asked me if we were gonna get in trouble. I told him ‘You’re lucky we have a job. Nobody’s ever (gone) into the stands and you’re gonna ask me if we’re in trouble?’ So that lets you know he ain’t all the way there.”

Something tells me Stephen isn’t exactly  “all the way there” either.
