Tracy McGrady wants to make NBA comeback with Lakers
Now that Tracy McGrady has gotten professional baseball out of his system, the 35-year-old has his sights set on returning to the NBA. Over the summer, McGrady retired from baseball after recording his first career strikeout. He then spent some time playing basketball in China. Next stop: Los Angeles Lakers?
In a lengthy feature written by Les Carpenter of Bleacher Report, McGrady reiterated that he has not given up on his NBA career (he started talking about a comeback in September).
“The thing is, I can still go, man,” McGrady told Carpenter. “My body is still in shape. I can go. It’s about opportunity, though. … I want no limits on who I am and what I can do, not stand in the corner and shoot jump shots.
“I want to be involved, that’s not saying 10 to 15 shots, I want to be involved. I don’t want to stand in the corner and shoot threes. That’s not me.”
McGrady was on the San Antonio Spurs roster for their championship run last season, but he logged no significant minutes. Despite that, he still thinks he can help an NBA team. More specifically, T-Mac thinks the struggling Lakers could make room for him.
“This Kobe (Bryant),” he says. “I could play with him.”
When McGrady and Bryant were in their primes, both were contending for the NBA scoring title. There is no way they would have been able to coexist, but McGrady thinks it would be different now that neither is at the peak of his game.
Personally, we’d rather see McGrady keep wearing clothes like this than see him on an NBA roster again.
