Big update emerges on Mark Cuban’s lawsuit against Patrick Dumont

Mark Cuban and Patrick Dumont are no longer at each other’s throats (at least in the courtroom).

The former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Cuban has formally withdrawn his lawsuit against his successor Dumont, Christian Clark of The Athletic reported on Wednesday. Cuban’s attorneys withdrew their Rule 202 petition earlier this week, which they had filed late last month.

Clark adds that Cuban’s attorneys were originally seeking sworn testimony regarding the Mavericks’ push to develop a new arena in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. You can read Clark’s full report on the situation here.

Cuban, 68, was the majority owner of the Mavericks from 2000-23 before deciding to sell his controlling interest to Dumont and Dumont’s mother-in-law Miriam Adelson. But the transition of power has been marred by drama and infighting, seemingly beginning when Cuban was cut out of the decision-making process in the franchise-altering 2025 trade of superstar Luka Doncic.

As for the lawsuit, Cuban, who still owns a 27 percent minority interest in the Mavericks franchise, had claimed that Dumont was freezing him out of potential business opportunities related to the team’s plans for a new arena. Cuban also accused Dumont of engaging in “adversarial business practices” and was requesting details on the finances and corporate structure of the Mavericks’ arena project (read the full details here).

But now just over a month later, Cuban has officially withdrawn his legal petition against Dumont. The drama between the two men may still be here to stay though, especially since Cuban recently said publicly that he regretted selling the Mavericks to Dumont and Adelson.
