Report: Warriors eyeing Karl-Anthony Towns amid rumors of unhappiness

Karl Anthony Towns

The Golden State Warriors may be doing some serious plotting in the midst of their first down season in nearly a decade.

The Athletic’s Ethan Strauss reported Sunday that the Dubs are monitoring the situation of All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns. Multiple NBA executives are said to have relayed word at the recent G League showcase that Towns is unhappy with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Strauss does note though that the Wolves and Warriors currently have differing visions of how a trade between the two of them could look.

The 24-year-old Towns is in the middle of a career year, averaging 26.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game on 51.4 percent from the field and 41.8 percent from deep. He has gotten little support from his teammates however, as the Wolves are currently 11-20 and have only had one winning season since Towns was drafted in 2015.

While the Warriors do lack quality young assets asides from perhaps rookie forward Eric Paschall, they badly need a center and figure to be right back in title contention when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson return from injury. Towns is also very good friends with guard D’Angelo Russell, such that Russell almost signed with the Wolves last summer.
