Warriors say Kevin Durant is unlikely to play at start of NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors had no problem sweeping the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals without Kevin Durant, and it looks like they will have to begin the NBA Finals without him as well.
In a press release on Thursday, the Warriors announced that Durant has not yet been cleared for on-court activities as he recovers from his calf injury and is unlikely to be ready for the start of the Finals. The team is “hopeful” he could return at some point during the series.

The Warriors are still awaiting the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors, with that series currently tied at 2-2. Thursday’s press release sounded a lot less certain than the way Warriors owner Joe Lacob talked about Durant earlier in the week, so it will be interesting to see how the situation plays out.
