The NBA season is less than a month old, but Zion Williamson is already looking at an extended absence due to injury.
Williamson suffered a hamstring strain and will be out indefinitely, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. The New Orleans Pelicans forward will be evaluated “in the coming weeks.”

Williamson is now in his sixth NBA season, but the story remains the same: he simply cannot stay healthy on a consistent basis. Much has been made of his recent attempts to get in better shape in order to stay on the floor, and he seemed genuinely confident that this season would be different for him. He did manage to play in 70 games last year, but that has proved to be an outlier in relation to the rest of his career.
Through six games this season, Williamson was averaging 22.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. The Pelicans lost without Williamson on Friday night to fall to a disappointing 3-7, and had already been playing shorthanded before Williamson’s newest setback.
