Martin Truex Jr. is expected to make a big announcement on Friday.

The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi reported on Thursday that Truex is expected to announce his retirement plans during a press conference at Iowa Speedway on Friday. Truex will be at Iowa Speedway to prepare for Sunday’s Iowa Corn 350 and is expected to announce that he will be retiring after the season.

The 43-year-old Truex has been contemplating retirement the last few years. He is the oldest active full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series.

The 2017 Cup Series champion has yet to win a race in the Cup Series this season but is fifth in the points standings. He has had seven top-10 finishes.

In addition to winning the Cup Series in 2017, Truex has won the Xfinity Series twice (in 2004 and 2005).

Truex’s plans to retire will create a vacancy for the No. 19 Toyota Camry XSE for Joe Gibbs Racing. Bianchi reports that Chase Briscoe is favored to replace Truex as the driver of the No. 19 Toyota.

In addition to winning the Cup Series, Truex has won some big races during his career, including the Coca-Cola 600 twice and the Southern 500 once.
