Ryan Blaney had an unfortunate equipment malfunction during Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., and it led to a scary health situation for him afterward.

Blaney finished third in the Great American Getaway 400. Temperatures during the race were in the mid-90s, and Blaney appeared physically exhausted after it ended.

Colin Ward of Motorsports Today reported that Blaney fell to his knees multiple times after exiting his No. 12 Team Penske Ford at the conclusion of the race. Blaney stood up briefly for an interview with Amazon and then went back to the ground. He was tended to by medical personnel and eventually taken to the care center in a golf cart.

During his interview with Amazon, Blaney revealed that his cooling suit, which drivers wear to help regulate their temperature, was not working. He realized on the 15th lap of the race that it was “gonna be a long day.”

“It was warm, but I was able to keep going,” Blaney said.

There has been no indication that Blaney experienced any significant lingering effects.

Blaney battled an illness during a different race earlier this month and said he nearly had a bathroom emergency while driving. June has been a long month for the 31-year-old, but he continues to see good results.
