During Sunday’s game between Miami and Boston College, Hurricanes infielder Edgar Michelangeli hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. What followed did not sit well with members of the Boston College team.
With Miami leading 5-3, Michelangeli launched a home run to left field to extend the lead to more comfortable margin of 9-3. Michelangeli celebrated with a slow stroll and bat flip on his way to first base. He later had words with the catcher just before crossing home plate. Shortly after, both benches cleared.
Miami and Boston College split the first two games of their series, meaning Sunday’s game decided who would advance to the College World Series. With that said, the stakes were obviously high and Michelangeli’s grand slam was a big blow that created a cushion for the Hurricanes. However, if you’re a fan (or member) of the opposing team, it’s not hard to see why Michelangeli’s actions could be viewed as a bit over-the-top.
Michelangeli is no stranger to bat flips, as it was mentioned during the replay. This is the referenced one from couple of weeks ago after Michelangeli hit a game-winning home run against North Carolina State.
