New video showed the immediate aftermath of Alijah Arenas’ car crash early Thursday and revealed some new details about the situation.
TMZ Sports obtained video of Arenas’ wrecked Tesla Cybertruck that was recorded by an eyewitness who lived near the site of the crash in Reseda, Calif. The video shows that Arenas’ vehicle collided with a fire hydrant before coming to a stop against a tree. The collision caused water to spray from the hydrant, while the Cybertruck was clearly in flames. Arenas looks to have initially been unable to escape the vehicle.
Arenas was eventually able to escape the vehicle with the help of bystanders. In the video, he can be seen lying shirtless on the ground and coughing as water from the fire hydrant floods the street around him.
Police had said they believe Arenas lost control of the vehicle and crashed, and the video would seem to support that. There does not appear to be a second car involved, and it is unclear when the Cybertruck caught fire.
Arenas was transported to a nearby hospital and placed in a medically-induced coma following the crash. He was reported to be in stable condition on Thursday. SI prep reporter Tarek Fattal reported that Arenas did not sustain any major bodily injuries, but was being treated for smoke inhalation.
Arenas is one of the top basketball prospects for the class of 2025. He averaged 30.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.2 steals per game this season for Chatsworth High School in California this year. His prep accomplishments led to him being named as a McDonald’s All-American. He has committed to playing college ball at USC.
