One fan played a huge role in determining the outcome of Wednesday night’s Mississippi State-Georgia game in Athens.
Georgia’s Tyree Crump had improbably made a 3-pointer to tie the game at 67 with 10 seconds left. Mississippi State then had the ball and attempted a 3-pointer but got fouled. Since they were only in the bonus, Mississippi State only had a 1-and-1 at the line. Quinndary Weatherspoon missed the free throw, but there was a problem.
A fan tossed a stuffed animal onto the court during Weatherspoon’s free throw attempt. Georgia, the home team, was called for a technical foul due to the fan’s actions, giving Mississippi State another two free throws. Weatherspoon made 1-of-2, giving Mississippi State a 68-67 win.
