Juwan Howard receives major discipline from Michigan

Juwan Howard has received significant discipline from Michigan over his major altercation on Sunday.

Michigan is suspending Howard for the rest of the regular season, both Yahoo and ESPN reported on Monday.

Michigan has five games remaining in the regular season and is 14-11. Four of the team’s five remaining games are at home, while the regular season finale is at Ohio State on March 6.

It’s unclear who would serve as the team’s interim head coach while Howard is out.

Howard was upset with Wisconsin for calling a timeout with 15 seconds left while up by 15. He wagged his finger in front of opposing coach Greg Gard’s face during the handshake line. Howard ended up hitting Wisconsin assistant coach Joe Krabbenhoft in the head with an open hand (video here).

This was not Howard’s first incident of this nature. Last year, he got into an altercation with Mark Turgeon in the Big Ten Tournament and was ejected.

Howard’s history may have been a factor in Michigan’s disciplinary decision.
