LSU suspends coach Will Wade in light of potential recruiting violations
The LSU Tigers have been one of college basketball’s best stories this season, but the school is now being marred by scandal.
On Thursday, a Yahoo Sports report revealed that coach Will Wade was caught on tape by the FBI in a phone conversation with would-be agent Christian Dawkins discussing an “offer” made to a recruit. While it’s not explicitly stated on the tape, Wade appeared to be referring to current LSU freshman Javonte Smart.
The school wasted no time responding, and on Friday, it was announced that Wade would be suspended indefinitely.

Any financial offer to a recruit would obviously be a huge recruiting violation, and we’re likely to hear more about this. Wade is in the process of being subpoenaed to testify at an ongoing NCAA corruption trial along with another high-profile coach who has faced allegations of recruiting impropriety.
The Tigers are 25-5 this season and co-leaders of the SEC. Unfortunately, this will be a huge blot on that successful year.
