Michigan State students to support Larry Nassar victims with ‘teal out’
Members of the Michigan State student section are planning to show support for victims of Larry Nassar during the school’s men’s basketball game on Friday.
Nassar, a former team doctor for USA gymnastics and Michigan State, was sentenced on Wednesday to 40 to 175 years in prison by Judge Rosemarie Aquilina for numerous sex crimes. During the hearing, more than 150 women Nassar abused spoke about his acts against them.
When Wisconsin takes the floor at the Breslin Center on Friday for its game against the Spartans, there is expected to be an abundance of teal in the crowd. The student section, known as The Izzone, is planning to have students wear teal (commonly worn to raise awareness of sexual assault), to support Nassar’s victims.
Breaking news: We are very likely going to have teal shirts to pass out outside the arena before the game. More info on that to come. We’ll have a big thank you to some generous donors once it all gets figured out. pic.twitter.com/7WkIIPYjgC

A couple ideas if you bought a plain teal shirt. You could write the names of one of the victims (or multiple) or you could write a play on words from the team’s warm ups and write “They talked, we listened” or “We Heard” #IzzoneTealOut

Last week, Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo was blasted by the mother of Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman for his comments regarding Nassar and school president Lou Anna K. Simon. Izzo later issued a statement clarifying his remarks. Simon announced her resignation on Wednesday in the wake of the scandal.
