Reports indicated that Martelli had been offered the position last week.
For Martelli, it means his absence from the coaching ranks after being fired by St. Joseph’s will be brief. Martelli had coached there since 1995, and was named Naismith and AP Coach of the Year in 2004. He should provide valuable counsel for Howard, who is embarking on his first head coaching job at any level.
