Thad Matta reportedly to meet with Georgia about vacancy
Georgia will be looking to a familiar name as they begin their head coaching search.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, the Bulldogs will meet with Thad Matta on Monday.
Matta, 50, was ousted as Ohio State’s head coach in June following a disappointing 17-15 season. He took the Buckeyes to seven straight NCAA Tournaments, reaching the Final Four and Elite Eight once, as well as two other Sweet Sixteen appearances. Prior to Ohio State, he coached Xavier for three seasons and took them to the Elite Eight.
Matta slipped towards the end of his time at Ohio State, but he certainly is an accomplished head coach.
Georgia has a vacancy after firing Mark Fox. Fox reached the NCAA Tournament just twice in nine seasons as the Bulldogs’ head coach.
