Kalen DeBoer does not exactly have a lot of goodwill in the state of Alabama these days.
WHNT News 19 in Huntsville, Ala. aired a feature this week on the colossal Powerball jackpot, which is officially up to $1.8 billion ahead of Saturday’s drawing. During the feature, they interviewed several local residents and asked them how they would spend the money if they won the jackpot.
One resident named Susie Conerly from Guntersville, Ala. had a particularly interesting answer. She said that she would start off by buying out the Alabama head football coach DeBoer to remove him from his position. Conerly also got in a swipe at Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne in the process.
“I’ll tell you exactly what I’d do with the first $70 million,” said Conerly. “I’d pay off Kalen DeBoer and get him the heck out of the University of Alabama. And then I’d take whatever else it took to get rid of the AD.”
Take a look at the hilarious clip.
"I'll tell ya exactly what I'd do with the first $70 million- I'd pay off Kalen DeBoer and get him the heck out of the University of Alabama. And then I'd take whatever else it took to get rid of the AD."

DeBoer succeeded all-time Alabama icon Nick Saban as the head coach of the program before the 2024 season. But DeBoer went an underwhelming (by Tide standards) 9-4 in his first year and got defeated in the ReliaQuest Bowl by a seven-win Michigan team. Alabama then kicked off DeBoer’s second season last week with an upset loss to unranked Florida State, causing some of their fans to flash the bird on national television.
Meanwhile, Conerly definitely did her research here as DeBoer is making a bit over $10 million per year with seven seasons left on his contract, including this one (though his actual buyout figure is around $63 million). Seeing as the tax bill on the $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot would reduce the take-home prize for the winner to “only” around $826 million (assuming a lump-sum payment), it sounds like Conerly is pretty dedicated to DeBoer’s downfall.
