Bowling Green linebacker D.J. Lynch got into a fight with Pitt tight end Manasseh Garner on the opening play of the second half in the Little Caesars Bowl on Thursday that somehow resulted in no ejections.
Lynch pancaked Garner while blocking downfield on the play. Something happened between them when they went to the ground with Lynch on top, because TV cameras then showed Lynch hauling off on Garner and punching him multiple times … all in front of a referee. That was a full-on ground-and-pound MMA-style assault and nothing happened.
The two received personal foul penalties that offset and somehow avoided ejections. Bowling Green also returned the kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown that tied the game.
