Cade McNamara addresses rumors he quit on Iowa football
Cade McNamara posted a statement on social media Friday to address rumors about his status with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
McNamara transferred to Iowa prior to the 2023 season after spending his first three years with Michigan. He came to the Hawkeyes amid fan fare and high expectations. Unfortunately, McNamara suffered a season-ending knee injury in Iowa’s fifth game last season. Then this season, McNamara suffered a concussion in an October 26 win over Northwestern.
McNamara said in his statement that he has still not yet been cleared to play. The fifth-year quarterback says he was cleared on Sunday to begin practicing, but he suffered a setback.

McNamara is hoping to be able to play next week against Nebraska.
Iowa has gone 1-1 without McNamara, beating Wisconsin and losing to UCLA. The Hawkeyes play Maryland on Saturday and then will face Nebraska on Friday, November 29 to end the regular season.
Despite what some suggested — that McNamara had quit on Iowa and was done with the team — he says that is not the case. The 6-4 Hawkeyes still have two conference games and a likely bowl game ahead.
