Report: Charlie Strong has had preliminary discussions with South Florida
Charlie Strong may not be out of work for very long.
According to ESPN’s Chris Low, Charlie Strong has held preliminary discussions with South Florida officials over the school’s vacant coaching position.
Strong was expected to meet with USF officials on Friday for more formal talks. He is reportedly atop the Bulls’ list of potential hires.
The former Texas coach knows the state of Florida well. He was defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer at Florida and has worked for the Gators in stints dating back to the 1990s. South Florida likely figures his presence and knowledge could give them a boost in recruiting.
USF has been looking at fairly high-profile candidates. One other potential hire, however, has a rather significant family issue that could prevent him from getting the job.
