Dabo Swinney envisions quarterback controversy lasting into season
Dabo Swinney still isn’t ready to announce a starting quarterback for his Clemson Tigers. In fact, he says he sees the quarterback controversy lasting into the season.
Swinney said on Tuesday that he thinks multiple quarterbacks will play in the team’s opener against Furman. He sees that continuing beyond the opener.
“The one thing I can probably definitely say is regardless of how it plays out, I don’t see a situation early where we just play one guy,” Swinney said Tuesday via the Post and Courier’s Grace Raynor. “This is a situation that if somebody separates, it’s probably going to take place in the games because you’re talking about incredible competitors that are up to the task.”
Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence are the main competitors for the job. Bryant started most of last season for Clemson and is a senior. Lawrence is a true freshman who outperformed Bryant in April’s spring game. Redshirt freshman Chase Brice is also in the mix.
What happens in the team’s second game against Texas A&M will likely say the most about their quarterback depth chart.
