EA Sports’ new edition of its college football video game is set to drop this week, but you will not see Deion Sanders in it.
Sanders is one of the real coaches whose virtual likeness will not appear in College Football 27. Asked about it on Tuesday, the Colorado Buffaloes coach suggested that the reasons were simply down to money.
“I don’t know about the video games. I have a wonderful team that handles a lot of business for me. If I’m not in the game, that means they weren’t paying enough,” Sanders said. “It probably didn’t fit where we’re going right now. That’s probably it. It was probably just that simplistic.”

NCAA coaches have a joint licensing agreement with EA Sports to appear in the game. A few high-profile figures, including Sanders and Bill Belichick, have opted out of that agreement, likely because they feel that their likeness is worth more than the agreement would pay them.
Sanders and his family certainly have no need for the money. Unfortunately for those who love the video game, it means they will be stuck with a generic coach in charge of Colorado once again this year.
