Dylan Raiola does not want to see his head coach go anywhere.
James Franklin was fired by Penn State on Monday, which set off immediate speculation that the Nittany Lions would target Matt Rhule for the vacancy. Rhule played college ball at Penn State and has ties to the program, which makes him a natural fit for the job. However, he is already the head coach at Nebraska, so he is at one of Penn State’s competitors within the Big Ten.
Nebraska doesn’t want to see Rhule leave, especially since the team is 5-1 this season. Raiola, who is Nebraska’s quarterback, definitely doesn’t want to lose his coach.
“He ain’t going nowhere,” Raiola said while speaking during a press conference on Tuesday.
Raiola said that the rumors stemmed from people stirring things up, and further noted that Rhule’s wife is happy at Nebraska.

On the Penn State speculation, Raiola says: “It’s just people stirring stuff up and making it bigger than it is.”

Raiola made his feelings even more clear a day earlier. He posted an image to his Instagram Story of him with Coach Rhule. He captioned the photo “Nebraska Head Ball Coach” with a lock image.

It has to be an encouraging sign for Nebraska’s leadership that Raiola doesn’t want Rhule to go anywhere. The Cornhuskers are 5-1 and have six games remaining on their regular-season schedule. The Huskers might feel differently if the rest of their season goes poorly. For now, they probably would like to keep Rhule and maintain the momentum he seems to be building.
Odds surrounding who will be the next Penn State coach have been released. Rhule is at the top of the list.
