Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers are still celebrating after a 27-21 win over the Miami Hurricanes on Monday night in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla.
On Tuesday, Mendoza’s brother, Alberto, announced he was entering the transfer portal. Later on in the day, Alberto Mendoza picked his new school, and it is the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, per a report from Matt Zenitz and Christ Hummer of 247Sports.

Mendoza, the younger brother of Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza, was IU’s backup QB this year. In limited action, was 18 of 24 for 286 yards with five TD passes. Also ran for 190 yards pic.twitter.com/Svp7IejcRK
Alberto Mendoza was the backup QB in 2024 for Indiana, and he threw for 286 yards with 5 touchdowns and an interception in just eight games. He played in the Rose Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide, although he didn’t attempt a pass in the 38-3 blowout victory.
Alberto Mendoza was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, and he committed to James Madison in December 2023. After Curt Cignetti left James Madison and was hired by Indiana, Mendoza also entered the portal and followed Cignetti to Bloomington.
The younger Mendoza brother had offers from Toledo, East Carolina, Appalachian State and others before committing initially to James Madison.
Indiana landed TCU transfer QB Josh Hoover in the portal, and now Alberto Mendoza goes to Georgia Tech, which is looking to replace QB Haynes King.
Whether or not Alberto Mendoza can win the QB1 job remains to be seen, but he wastes no time finding a new school just a day after winning the national title.
