James Carville called ESPN “gutless” for apologizing to the SEC for his comments about the conference’s commissioner on Saturday.
Carville, a famous political commentator and LSU alumni/fan, appeared on ESPN’s “GameDay” show Saturday ahead of the massive LSU-Alabama game. During his appearance, Carville suggested a conspiracy theory is in play to help Alabama. He said Alabama has been aided by key opponents being ejected from games for targeting. That included Devin White, who controversially missed the first half of LSU’s game against Bama.
Carville also wore a shirt that essentially told SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey to kiss his rear.
A few hours after Carville’s appearance, ESPN issued an apology to Sankey during halftime of the Texas A&M-Auburn game.
What did Carville think of ESPN’s apology? He called them “gutless” for it.
Grabbing bite to eat @philsoysterbar and I see gutless ESPN cut in their show to bow down to the SEC. well I got documentary evidence they knew what they were gonna get on air but still can’t help but suck up to power. #GeauxTigers #speaktruthtopower #releasethetexts pic.twitter.com/G29ew5mf9K

ESPN owns the SEC Network and has a vested interest/relationship with the conference. Maybe by inviting Carville on knowing he would make such comments and then later issuing an apology, ESPN could provide edgy commentary while maintaining their relationship with the conference and therefore sit on both sides of the fence.
