Report: JT Daniels has interest in Michigan as transfer
USC Trojans quarterback JT Daniels has put his name into the transfer portal, and a report says he has interest in Michigan.
USC head coach Clay Helton shared the news on Thursday that Daniels entered the portal, though the coach said Daniels could also return to USC.
While the likelihood of Daniels actually leaving is unclear, The Michigan Insider says the quarterback has interest in the Wolverines.
Daniels was a 5-star recruit coming out of high school in Southern California and was offered by Michigan. He had the Wolverines in his final four, along with Washington and Stanford, and USC of course. But he followed the path of so many other Mater Dei quarterbacks in choosing the Trojans.
Daniels’ freshman season did not go great (14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions), and then he suffered a torn ACL in USC’s opener last year. He fell behind Kedon Slovis on the depth chart, who will be a sophomore this fall, which makes his pathway to playing time a difficult one.
While Michigan had interest in Daniels in high school, you have to wonder to what extent they would be interested now. They have changed their offense towards more versatile quarterbacks, have Dylan McCaffrey and Joe Milton on the roster, and then recruit J.J. McCarthy is coming in 2021. Plus, Michigan’s last 5-star transfer quarterback, Shea Patterson, didn’t exactly flourish. I would look elsewhere if I were Jim Harbaugh.
