JT Daniels enters name in transfer portal, could leave USC
JT Daniels said several months ago that he is not going to transfer from USC despite the emergence of true freshman Kedon Slovis, but the quarterback is now exploring the possibility of leaving the Trojans.
USC head coach Clay Helton issued a statement on Thursday announcing that Daniels has entered his name in the NCAA’s transfer portal. While the statement did not say for certain that Daniels is leaving USC, Helton said Daniels wants to “explore all of his options going into the 2020 season.”

Daniels suffered a season-ending knee injury in USC’s first game last year. Slovis played well in his place, and there have been questions about whether or not Daniels will be able to reclaim his starting job heading into 2020. Slovis threw for 3,502 yards, 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Daniels started as a true freshman in 2018 and threw for 2,672 yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Now that Daniels has entered the transfer portal, it seems likely that he will leave USC. Daniels’ father said back in December that JT intends to compete with Slovis for a starting job, but there should be plenty of interest in Daniels from other programs.
