South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers was knocked out of the Gamecocks’ game against Vanderbilt at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C., after a targeting play on Saturday night.

South Carolina had the ball down 14-7 with under two minutes to play in the first half. Sellers dumped a pass off to Rahsul Faison for a yard. Vandy linebacker Langston Patterson pursued the quarterback and nailed Sellers in the head with a hit after the throw.

The head-hunting by Patterson resulted in his ejection for targeting. South Carolina also later announced that Sellers had been knocked out for the game.

Sellers had entered the season as a Heisman Trophy contender and one of the highest-earning quarterbacks in the country. The sophomore quarterback had gone 6/7 for 94 yards with an interception against Vandy prior to being knocked out. He entered the game with 337 yards passing and two touchdowns on the season, with 48 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Luke Doty entered the game at quarterback for South Carolina following Sellers’ exit.
