Malcolm Perry pulled from stands to play quarterback for Navy
During Navy’s season opener against Fordham on Saturday, the Midshipmen had an unexpected development at the quarterback position.
Starting quarterback Tago Smith suffered a knee injury during the first half and later needed the assistance of crutches on the sideline. That left Navy shorthanded at quarterback. In need of an extra body, the team called on freshman Malcolm Perry, who was part of the brigade in the stands when the game began.

Perry was listed as the No. 4 quarterback on a recent depth chart and reportedly did not dress for the game because he was under the weather. Perry didn’t just get into uniform, though. He played and rushed for 30 yards on seven attempts as Navy was victorious by a final score of 52-16. Perry did not attempt a pass.
An adventurous day for the freshman indeed and surely one he won’t forget anytime soon.
