Mark Helfrich apologizes to fans after blowout loss in Oregon home finale
In their final game at Autzen Stadium for 2016, Oregon coach Mark Helfrich could only apologize to fans after a 52-27 drubbing at the hands of Stanford.
The lowly Ducks have fallen far and are just 1-6 in Pac-12 play with two more games to go, both on the road. The program is headed for its first losing season since 2004. In what will likely prove to be his Autzen swan song, Helfrich praised the fans and apologized for his team’s awful performance.
Mark Helfrich: "Our fans were awesome. I apologize to them for how we finished out the home slate." #GoDucks

It’s a nice gesture, but it won’t save Helfrich’s job. It’s probably too late in that regard, with Oregon’s primary backer reportedly ready to spend big money on a new coach. Expect to see Oregon linked to all the biggest available names in the months to come once the season concludes.
