The Miami Hurricanes surprised a few onlookers by benching quarterback Malik Rosier during the first half of their game against the FIU Panthers and replacing him with redshirt freshman N’Kosi Perry.
While Rosier didn’t seem to have really done anything to merit the change, coach Mark Richt said that putting Perry in had been pre-planned. Once he took control of the offense and played well, Richt simply decided to stick with the hot hand.
On with WQAM at the half, this is what Mark Richt had to say about N'Kosi Perry:
"The plan was to put him in third series no matter what and see how it went. … He did well with it and I kept him in. He's playing well. He'll start the second half."

So why did Richt stick with Perry? The redshirt freshman was simply electric after entering the game.
N'Kosi Perry is 12/13 for 170 yards and two scores. #UM up 24-0 on #FIU with 27 seconds left in the first half.

Rosier’s job status had not been secure, as he struggled at the end of the 2017 season and didn’t look great at the start of 2018 either. Perry was going to get a chance sooner or later, and he seized it. It’s tough to see Rosier getting his job back anytime soon.
