Al Golden is out as Miami football coach a day after the school’s worst ever defeat.
Golden spent five seasons at Miami, going just 32-25 and making only two bowl games. That’s not good enough for a program of Miami’s standards, and the move doesn’t come as a surprise, though athletic director Blake James previously said Golden wouldn’t be evaluated until after the season.
“I simply believe that now is the time to bring the Hurricane Family together and rally behind our young men,” James said in a statement.

If that’s what James wants, he’s doing the right thing, as Golden’s firing should prove to be a very popular move among those associated with the program. Saturday’s 58-0 loss to Clemson may well have been the last straw for many, with numerous Hurricanes alumni taking to Twitter to rip the coach.
