Mike Tomlin’s son commits to play football at Maryland

Mike Tomlin

Mike Tomlin’s son has committed to play collegiate football not too far from where his father coaches professionally.

On Tuesday, Dino Tomlin, a 3-star wide receiver from Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, announced via his Twitter account his intentions to play for the University of Maryland.

The commitment marks the first for the Terrapins since D.J. Durkin was reinstated as head coach of the football program and fired a day later. Despite the recent scandal and sparse attendance at the university, Tomlin feels Maryland is the right place for him.

“I felt it was the right place for me to develop,” Tomlin told 247 Sports. “Get to see good competition. Close to family.”

Tomlin also received offers from Pittsburgh and Iowa State. Maryland’s interim head coach is former Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
