Myles Garrett explains why he would not do interview with Booger McFarland

Myles Garrett

Projected No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett was scheduled to appear on the Mike and Mike Show Monday morning, but he ended up refusing to go on because of who was filling in for one of the Mikes.

Booger McFarland, an analyst for the SEC Network, was filling in for Mike Golic. Apparently McFarland has said some negative things about Garrett in recent weeks, and the Texas A&M star took note of them. After McFarland explained that he has questioned the “lack of toughness” for the entire A&M team, Garrett went on Russillo and Kanell to share his side.

“I just don’t appreciate the kind of negativity and bias he shows toward some guys,” Garrett said. “I don’t feel like I should have to sit there and take that. I have no problem taking criticism from anybody, but when he shows bias toward a particular team or certain player and then spouts negativity to everybody else, it doesn’t sit well with me.”

Garrett added that McFarland never gave him credit for improving against the run with each season or playing with a broken hand, which he found unfair.

By now, Garrett knows he is almost certainly going to be the No. 1 pick in the draft — and he has a warning for the Browns if they don’t take him. He doesn’t really need to do anything to boost his stock further, but appearing on the air to work out his differences with McFarland probably would have showed more maturity than bailing on the show at the last second.
