Nick Saban and Bill Belichick blessed football fans with an incredible moment on live television.
Saban was part of the panel for ESPN’s “College GameDay” ahead of North Carolina’s Saturday showdown against Clemson at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. The show had Belichick mic’d up as his Tar Heels warmed up for the contest.
Kirk Herbstreit asked Belichick to detail any of his experiences with Saban as the two were rising to the top of the coaching totem pole decades ago. The Super Bowl-winning coach used the prompt to share how much Saban has impacted his own career.
“I learned an awful lot from Coach Saban,” Belichick said. “… I’m very grateful for the relationship that I have with him, and all the things that I’ve learned from him. He’s the best that’s ever done it. Like I said, it’s a real honor for me to just be with him for those four years, and to have our relationship and friendship that’d almost be lifelong in this career.”

Saban had a humble yet playful response, joking that Belichick was giving him way too much credit.
“Well, I never thought, in all the time we’ve been friends, that I’d say you’re full of s–t. But I’ve learned a lot more from you than you’ve ever learned from me,” Saban answered.
The moment was a wholesome interaction between two of the greatest coaches in the history of football. The two legends were comfortable enough to joke around with one another like two old friends sharing laughs over a beer.
Belichick’s exchange with Saban turned out to be the best highlight of his Saturday, as North Carolina got trounced by Clemson 38-10.
