Nick Saban on Kirby Smart questions: Talk to my soda bottle (Video)
Nick Saban has seemingly been extra testy with the media this season, and the Alabama coach decided on Wednesday that he would deflect all questions about a certain topic to his bottle of Coca-Cola.
There has been speculation that Bama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is a top candidate for two SEC head coaching jobs. When asked about those reports, Saban began by paying Smart a compliment.
“If you really care about the coaches and you know a guy has done a great job and he’s worked real hard to create another opportunity for himself, you ought to be happy for him,” he said. “You shouldn’t be worried or concerned about it.”
After spending a few moments talking about how players know Alabama will always have a good coaching staff in place no matter who leaves, Saban then became irritated.
“Don’t ask me anymore questions about that,” he said. “That’s all I have to say about it. I don’t have anything else to say about it, so don’t ask. There is no more. I know you would like to somehow extract something out of this (soda) bottle that’s not there. You all speculate and create things and then you want people to respond to it. Get this bottle to respond to it, because I don’t know anything more. You can ask the bottle, but don’t ask me.”
That’s a new one. Earlier this month, Saban provided us with this phenomenal quote about the Tide taking their lesser opponents seriously. We won’t say he has been in rare form this season, but Saban sure has been creative.
