Nick Saban supports Tuscaloosa native Deontay Wilder ahead of fight

Deontay Wilder

Nick Saban has a busy week preparing for Alabama’s game against Georgia in the SEC Championship on Saturday, but he found time to express his support for Deontay Wilder.

Wilder, a Tuscaloosa native, is fighting Tyson Fury on Saturday at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Showtime pay-per-view. The 33-year-old is looking to retain his WBC heavyweight title when he squares off with the Englishman.

Ahead of the big match, Saban recorded this video of support for Wilder:

“We’re so proud of the way you represent Tuscaloosa,” Saban said in the video.

Between Wilder and Saban’s Crimson Tide, Saturday is shaping up as a big day in Tuscaloosa. Fans in the area are hoping both can stay undefeated, with Alabama improving to 13-0 and Wilder going to 41-0. Wilder has won 39 of his 40 fights by knockout.
