Penn State kicker Joey Julius over the weekend opened up about the struggles he has had with a diagnosed eating disorder.
In a lengthy post on his Facebook page, Julius explained that he missed some of his team’s offseason program during the spring because he was seeking treatment. Julius thanked his coaches and the university for sending him to a facility where he was diagnosed with binge eating disorder.
Binge eating disorder, or BED, is a condition where people have “recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food (often very quickly and to the point of discomfort); a feeling of a loss of control during the binge; experiencing shame, distress or guilt afterwards,” according to the National Eating Disorders Association.
Julius became one of America’s favorite kickers last month when he laid a massive hit on a kick returner (video here) during a game against Kent State.
