USC lost one of its top defensive players during the third quarter of their game at Texas on Saturday night.
Porter Gustin was ejected for targeting after nailing Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger with a vicious hit that knocked the QB’s helmet off.
Officials reviewed the play and determined that Gustin hit Ehlinger high with the crown of his helmet, which is a targeting violation.
Not only was Gustin sent off for the second half of the game, but he will also have to sit out the first half of USC’s next game against Washington State as part of his punishment.
