One of the best quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class has made his college decision.
Ryder Lyons announced on Tuesday that he has committed to BYU. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect from Folsom High School in Folsom, Calif., chose the Cougars over Oregon. Lyons told Steve Wiltfong of On3 that he also considered USC, Ohio State, Michigan and Ole Miss.
Lyons is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has several family members who attended BYU.
“Very familiar, my family went there, my sisters went there, obviously a big part of my faith,” Lyons said. “Coach (Aaron) Roderick, coach (Kalani) Sitake, amazing people to talk to, great relationships with them. Great coaches, BYU had a huge year, 11 wins. A very good success rate with quarterbacks.”
Lyons is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 4 quarterback and No. 13 overall prospect in the Class of 2026. He is coming off an outstanding junior season at Folsom in which he threw for 3,011 yards, 46 touchdown passes and just 6 interceptions. Lyons also rushed for 585 yards and 14 scores.
Lyons spoke more about his decision during a Tuesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Lyons is the highest-rated commitment BYU has received in the modern recruiting era. He reserves the right to change his mind with months to go until National Signing Day in February, but he seems all-in on the Cougars.
