Steve Sarkisian is one of several big-name candidates who have been linked to the unexpected head coaching vacancy at Alabama, but he is not interested in the job.

Sarkisian and the University of Texas announced in a hype video on Friday that Sark is staying with the Longhorns. Texas Football posted the video on X and captioned it “just getting started.”

The 49-year-old Sarkisian was viewed as one of the favorites to replace Nick Saban at Alabama after Saban shocked the sports world by announcing his retirement this week. Sarkisian spent two seasons as offensive coordinator under Saban before being hired as the head coach at Texas, which is one reason he was seen as a logical fit for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama is reportedly focused on two candidates, and Sarkisian is not one of them. It is possible that Sark was never in the running. Either way, he is not leaving his current job.

Sarkisian just finished his third season as the head coach at Texas. The Longhorns went 12-2, losing to Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Sarkisian has turned Texas back into a national championship contender in short order, so it is no surprise he is content where he’s at.
