Tate Martell tweets first message since D’Eriq King transfer news

Tate Martell

Tate Martell on Thursday tweeted his first message since the D’Eriq King transfer news was made official.

For the second year in a row, a quarterback transferred in ahead of Martell. Last year it happened to Martell when he was at Ohio State and Justin Fields transferred from Georgia. This year it happened at Miami, where King transferred in from Houston.

Martell tweeted the following message Thursday — his first non-retweet Twitter activity in a few weeks.

The tweet does not indicate any plans from Martell, but it does showcase the positive attitude he appears to be maintaining. He is not down on himself even though he is buried on the depth chart once again.

Martell’s college career has been nothing short of a disappointment. He was an extremely high-profile recruit after his storied high school career at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. He switched his commitment twice in high school and ended up at Ohio State, where he was on the bench most of his career behind numerous great quarterbacks. He saw some action two seasons ago as a short-yardage/red zone QB behind Dwayne Haskins, but he left for Miami after Fields’ transfer. Martell then fell to third on Miami’s depth chart at quarterback and even switched positions to wide receiver, though he wants to remain at QB.

Martell could decide to remain at Miami and try to battle King, N’Kosi Perry, and Tyler Van Dyke for the starting job. His outlook there is not very good.
