The father of Texas linebacker Tim Cole is in intensive care after going into cardiac arrest prior to the Longhorns’ game against West Virginia Saturday.
The Austin American Statesman’s Brian Davis reports that Cole’s 60-year-old father went into cardiac arrest while waiting for the team buses to arrive prior to the game. Emergency medical service workers needed 20-30 minutes to returning a pulse to Cole, who was later transported to a hospital and taken to ICU.
After Texas’ 24-20 defeat, Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong confirmed that Cole was made aware of his father’s condition prior to the game.
“We know Tim had a heavy heart out there,” defensive end Malcolm Roach said via HookEm.com. “He’s a strong person. We played together, and I don’t think he let it affect his play. He played a great game today.”
Cole, a senior, had two tackles in the game. He sent this tweet after the game thanking the fans for their support:
Thank you longhorn family for all your thoughts and prayers. My family will pull through this
